Course Description

Movement applications for improving technical proficiency, performance dynamics, and stylistic clarity at the intermediate level. Dance combinations will explore various contemporary jazz styles, infused with rhythmic and syncopated musicality.

  • Students will demonstrate improved motor control and execution of body isolations and alignment.
  • Students will identify jazz specific movement and positions, both in stillness and in motion, and work toward mastering these identified stylistic elements.
  • Students will know and recall historical and cultural content related to jazz dance.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to self-direct and self-correct.
  • Students will demonstrate rhythm, syncopation, and musicality development.
  • Students will build a sense of artistry, expression, and performance quality.
  • Students will build awareness of personal strengths and limitations with the ability to recognize these in others.
