Intermediate-level course designed to aid the student in continued acquisition and development of technical skills in contemporary dance. Techniques basic to this dance form plus motional properties as they relate to dance will be emphasized.

Course Objectives
The practice of intermediate level contemporary dance technique in preparation of skill proficiency approaching the level of professional dance performance. Varied technique and theoretical considerations basic to this dance form will be thoroughly covered and motional properties as they relate to dance will be emphasized.
Topical Outline
The intermediate practice of movement exercises and phrases that develop proper alignment; efficient movement patterns; strength and flexibility; locomotion skills; level change; qualities and phrasing; spatial orientation inherent in contemporary dance technique. Improvisation will be used to further explore and embody particular movement concepts and processes. Discussion of contemporary dance performances, juried assessments and self evaluation papers required.
