Course Description

Pointe technique, which is an extension of ballet technique, with exercises to strengthen correct placement and develop musicality, artistry, and stylistic elements. Pointe skills applied to study and practice of variations from classical repertoire.

  • By the end of this course, students will be able to execute exercises on pointe in the center.
  • By the end of this course, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of ballet vocabulary.
  • By the end of this course, students will be able to discuss content, context, and style of variations from the classical ballet repertoire.
  • By the end of this course, students will be able to perform combinations and variations on pointe with correct ballet and pointe technique.
  • By the end of this course, students will be able to display strength and control when dancing sur les pointes.
  • By the end of this course, students will be able to perform variations with musicality, artistry, and correct stylistic elements.

  • Execute barre exercises that develop strength on pointe and reinforce ballet technique skills
  • Perform center exercises on pointe, developing coordination and movement quality
  • Apply classical ballet vocabulary to pointe technique
  • Explore the theory of pointe technique skills that extend from ballet technique including placement, musicality, and stylistic elements
  • Investigate and discuss content, context, and stylistic elements of the choreography in variations learned from the classical ballet repertoire
