Additional Requirements for Graduate Students: Graduate students will submit a proposal for a research project (creative or scholarly) under the direction of a faculty member. Graduate students will be expected to engage in intensive research including advanced readings, synthesis and analysis of material, and a fully developed point of view on a selected topic in dance and dance-related subjects. The investigation of an original idea will produce an extensive research project appropriate to the topic. The project will be a detailed, in-depth consideration of the student's chosen theme, demonstrating advanced research skills that clearly articulates the ability to think critically and creatively.

Student Learning Outcomes
The student must be able to demonstrate that an independent research project would be more beneficial than a more traditional course and/or address a topic beyond course offerings.
The student would be expected to develop a plan and schedule for their research and to submit progress reports as well as to meet regularly with their faculty advisor.
The student would be expected to conduct individual research.
The student would be expected to discuss the topic/area of research knowledgeably.
The student would be expected to explain the research process and methodology.
The student would be expected to produce a rigorously researched and correctly referenced (citations) scholarly paper or appropriately documented research for a creative project.
Topical Outline
As an independent study, the topic will be proposed by the student and approved by the faculty advisor and will follow the parameters of research (scholarly or creative) appropriate to the topic:
• Define a research topic/idea
• Develop a research/creative project from its inception through completion
• Synthesize and analyze materials on the selected topic in dance and dance-related subjects
• Create an annotated bibliography
• Submit an original project with drafts and revisions from feedback
