Course Objectives

To analyze the decorative arts of the historical periods in Europe and America. To recognize the historic styles of architecture, interiors, and furnishings that are recognized by scholars as architecture and the decorative arts as made and defined by various artists, architects, artisans, and others during the historic periods in Europe and America. To understand the design options for contemporary use that were made available through the historic progression of architecture and the decorative arts in western civilization. To demonstrate an understanding of the styles of the historic decorative arts of Europe and America by scoring a passing grade on examinations and the successful completion of a research project.
