Course Description
Minimum of four hundred hours working in an approved interior design-related firm. Requirements include portfolio preparation, job interviews, and selection of position one term before registration. Responsibility for finding position rests with student.

Course Objectives
To extend learning experience beyond the classroom and into the profession. To integrate academic theory with a comprehensive professional work experience. To develop an individualized learning program to further career objectives. To gain first hand knowledge of the interviewing and hiring processes, the interior design profession and related professions, and professional ethics. To document the internship experience in a written journal.
Topical Outline
Student declares particular interest in interior design specialty such as residential or non-residential; if non-residential then what specialty (medical, institutional, retail, corporate, hospitality, etc.) Student researches opportunities for internship in minimum of 5 firms of particular interior design specialty. Student prepares resume, letter of inquiry, and portfolio. Student secures interviews and offers of internship; supporting materials are sent to prospective firms by internship faculty. Student accepts position and enters firms's service. Student prepares periodic reports to faculty; faculty communicates periodically with student and interior design firm. At end of minimum 400 hour internship experience, faculty conducts evaluations of student's performance with interior design firm supervisor and firm's performance (as teacher) with student. Upon return to university after internship, student makes presentation to junior level interior design majors.
