Course Description
Beginning through advanced techniques used in science
illustration. The techniques will focus on pen and ink line as
well as continuous tone illustrations. The topics will range
from a beginning to advanced understanding of entomology,
ornithology, herpetology, and human anatomy.

Student learning Outcomes
Students will experience a thorough investigation of scientific illustration, from beginning to advanced principles and topics.
Students will gain experience with the commonly used media, including pencil, watercolor, photoshop, pen and ink, and illustrator.
Students will develop skills in the practices of illustration meeting stated objectives, research, specimen handling and measurement, sketch preparation, rendering style, and general aspects of visual communication and education.
Students will develop computer skills used as a tool for completing each illustration utilizing appropriate methods of scanning and reproduction as a basis for delivering finished artwork to the potential client.
Students will develop skills in critical academic discussion at studio critiques occurring regularly throughout the semester.
