Course Objectives
The objective is to learn how to conduct a thorough informal reading assessment of a child having difficulty with reading in school and to develop and provide appropriate instruction to advance the child's reading abilities.
Topical Outline
1. Learn how to administer and interpret a variety of instructional and assessment activities to learn about the child's reading competencies and needs. 2. Identify learning goals (in collaboration with the child) related to reading and writing. 3. Planned tutoring lessons to meet learning goals based on assessment results. 4. Provide instruction within a literacy project of interest to the child. 5. Write a report on the assessment results and tutoring outcomes for parents and teachers.
