Course Objectives

To provide graduate student in art with practical experience in teaching art on the college level and prepare them for future work in the teaching profession. To provide opportunities for graduate students to observe and assist an experienced faculty member and gain skills in planning, instructional methods and evaluation of students. To provide evaluation and feedback by direct observation as well as through evaluation of written materials developed by the graduate student, including course outlines and development of curricula, journals of course progress and commentaries on selected readings.


Topical Outline

Preliminary discussion with faculty member to arrive at overview of course content and goals. Preparation, in consultation with faculty member, of supplements to course outlines; development of discussion topics or studio projects for which the graduate student will assume responsibility. Sessions when graduate student observes faculty member in lecture and/or studio instruction. Discussion sections, studio technical instruction or critiques conducted by graduate student. Assistance to faculty member in the preparation of examinations; observation of and assistance to faculty member in final critiques, in grading of examinations, studio course projects and portfolios. Reading, and discussing with faculty member, appropriate material.
