Advanced concepts of drug information provision, including newsletter publication, ADR monitoring systems, drug usage evaluation, formulary management, and drug information retrieval and analysis.

Course Objectives

After attending class sessions, paticipating in class discussion, and completing assignments, the student should be able to: 1. Understand the process and answer drug information inquiries using a systematic approach including: categorizing the question, obtaining necessary background information, choosing the appropriate references, formulating a response, communicating the response, and providing follow-up. 2. Describe all components of contemporary formulary system management. 3. Describe methods to prevent, manage, and report adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, and medication errors. 4. Describe the management and requirements related to using investigational drugs. 5. Describe and be able to apply the principles of medication use evaluation. 6. Understand and be able to discuss the legal and ethical implications of providing drug information services. 7. Understand the history of drug information practice and describe career opportunities in the field.
