Course Description
Individual special studies or projects which provide the opportunity to pursue research interests in historic preservation.
Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
This course was originally developed as a graduate course. As the course is now being expanded to include undergraduate participation, it is not that graduate students will do additional work, but that undergraduate students will do a lesser amount of work than is currently required for the graduate students. The depth of work will vary and will depend on the number of hours the student registers for.

Course Objectives
Allow students to explore historic preservation topis in greater depth or to pursue speical interests within the field
Topical Outline
Submit typed proposal for approval by graduate coordinator. The faculty advisor will be responsible for the verification of coursework. The proposal must be submitted during the semester prior to taking the course: Title or subject of study Purpose intent and need Methodology Outline of study Preliminary bibliography Faculty advisor Desired credit hours Semester of proposed study A one-hour directed study would require between 45-60 hours of effort. A two-hour directed study would require between 90-120 hours of effort. A three-hour directed study would require between 150-180 hours of effort. Hours of effort include both time spent with the instructor and time spent on research and writing.
