Student learning Outcomes
Students will speak spontaneously about oneself, friends and family, and maintain simple conversations in the target language. Express ideas in the present, past, and future. Discuss daily activities, current issues and past events, give advice and suggestions, express preferences as well as judgment and feelings about different topics. Ask questions to maintain a conversation.
Students will write descriptions, personal stories, comparisons, and opinions, with more complex sentences incorporating connectors. Write short essays on current social issues.
Students will demonstrate awareness of cultural diversity and cultural differences by reflecting on one’s own culture and customs in oral and written activities in French.
Students will engage critically with diverse viewpoints to reflect upon cultural, social and political issues in the Francophone world.
Students will produce original written documents that demonstrate creativity and imaginative engagement with a theme or prompt.
Students will engage in small group discussions and collaborative writing activities, incorporating classmates’ feedback to improve accuracy and expression.
Topical Outline
In-class conversation and discussions to develop strategies of communication in speaking and listening. Readings from magazines, literary works, and a variety of sources on a variety of topics to provide students with information for in-class discussions and compositions. Writing in French to further knowledge of oneself and one's culture and of French speakers and their cultures. Review of principles of French grammar.
