Pharmacy Care Management


Course Description

Presentation of management principles, organizational needs, accounting practices, entrepreneurial aspects, marketing needs, and associated topics for use in future pharmacy and health care system practice milieus. The analysis of management principles as they relate to community and health-systems management.

Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
A research paper is required for completion. This paper should be 10-15 pages in length, not including references, double spaced, one inch margins, 12-point font. The goal of the completion of this paper is to give you the opportunity to explore in depth and think critically about a particular healthcare management issue discussed by our guest lecturers, or of particular interest to you. All of the management areas including financial, personnel, personal, organizational are acceptable topical areas for research and writing. Be certain to include references to the literature and/or websites as appropriate. Use any reference style and format with which you are comfortable.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course students will be able to: 1. Identify management and organizational issues facing today’s pharmacy practitioner and institutions. 2. Understand the need for sound personnel, organizational, personal, and financial management in contemporary and future pharmacy and healthcare system practice. 3. Appreciate the impact of change and associated ramifications for delivery of pharmacy services in evolving health care systems. 4. Gain skills in understanding important financial aspects of pharmacy and healthcare systems management. 5. Critically examine organizational structures and related aspects to optimally benefit patients and society.
