Professional Practices in Interior Design


Course Description

Explore relationships between the designer, wholesaler, and retailer in the home interiors industry. Particularly, designer and client relationships that emphasize retailing practices and economic resources in the interior design firm. Additionally, introduce business concepts, models, and professional skills associated with interiors. Students furthermore will develop a professional portfolio.

Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Graduate students enrolling in the course will be required (in addition to completing the same requirements as the undergraduates) to complete a job shadowing project wherein the students: 1) locate and contact a designer or design firm that matches their professional goals; 2) develop interview questions to ask the designer he/she will shadow; 3) spend an entire workday (or eight hours) shadowing the designer; and 4) complete a reflective paper summarizing their experiences with that designer and addressing the responses to the questions posed by the student.
