Course Objectives

The intention of the course is to provide first semester freshman an overview of the programs offered within the Lamar Dodd School of Art and to introduce them to professions that utilize art. The course will also provide a formal means for the visiting artists and scholars to address concerns of freshman.


Topical Outline

Presentations of the disciplines of drawing, painting, sculpture, art history, art education, graphic design, interior design, fabric design, photography, ceramics, digital media, scientific illustration, jewelry and metalwork, print making. Objectives of the Course: The course will familiarize the student with the studio diciplines available within the Lamar Dodd School of Art and the potential for vocations within those diciplines. It is hoped that the student will thus be better able to make informed decisions on what courses to take during her or his college career. Course Requirements: Students are required to attend each of the weekly one-hour lectures. Grading: Grading is pas-fail. Attendance is required for a passing grade.
