Course Objectives
The course includes the introduction of fundamental movement principles and will provide practice of beginning level proficiency skills in contemporary dance technique, theory and style.
Topical Outline
An introduction to the practice of movement exercises and phrases which will develop proper alignment; efficient movement patterns; strength and flexibility; locomotion skills; level change; qualities and phrasing; use of spatial orientation. The introduction of improvisational approaches will be used to explore and embody particular movement concepts and processes. Discussion of contemporary dance performances and self evaluation papers required.
