Course Objectives

1. Survey manpower needs in your community to obtain data useful in determining teaching content. 2. Identify and select instruments that can be used to assess student needs and interests. These instruments can be models developed by graduate students meeting objective one below, self made, or standardized instruments from a variety of sources. 3. Analyze data gathered from a variety of resources including community, industry, and students. 4. Sequence course objectives based upon analyses of data. 5. List materials, tools, and major equipment necessary to teach in the specialized areas of technological study based upon an analysis. 6. Complete a self-analysis of strengths and weaknesses. Describe activities that will address, reduce, or lessen the perceived weaknesses. 7. Prepare a two-page pager that focuses on how you already, or will, infuse work ethics as you prepare your students for the workforce. Submit your paper for dissemination on this web site. 8. Collect data from a variety of sources that aid in identifying needs of special populations in preparation for the workforce. Sources include federal, state, and local sources, journals, the Internet, and newspaper articles. 9. Prepare a portfolio containing an analysis of an occupational field, nature of the occupation, job titles, duties, tasks, operations, and cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills. The portfolio will also contain all the results of the collection and analysis of data displayed in tables or graphic formats noted in the above objectives. Specifics of the portfolio contents will be covered in class. In addition, the graduate students will: 10. Research and develop survey instruments to assess the needs of community, industry, and students to determine teaching content. Share the research and describe the instruments and their use. Disseminate self-developed instrument formats by submitting them for downloading on this web site. 11. Develop, modify, or adapt teacher-made instructional materials necessary to teach in the specialized areas of technological study. 12. Prepare a brief paper to lead a discussion on a topic (except work ethic and special populations) appropriate to this course and approved in advance by the instructor. Your paper and other materials should be submitted for posting on this web site. 13. Prepare a brief paper and give a presentation that illustrates issues confronted by special populations in the workplace. For the purpose of this assignment, special populations include those with learning deficiencies, non-traditional gender, minorities, and physically-handicapped persons. Your paper and other materials should be submitted for posting on this web site. 14. Conduct extensive research activities and prepare a quality term paper with citations from the literature on the issues and concerns related to analyses of the impact of new and emerging technologies on the educational and work environment. The paper is to be submitted by the end of the course, separate from the portfolio. May be revised to include a class presentation--dependent on number of graduate students and time.)
