Description:		Examination of the artistic production in Europe during 1800-1890 when avant-garde art first appeared. The particular formal qualities, content, and historical context of major styles or movements - Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism, Neo-Impressionism - are studied individually, but connected by overarching themes - the roles of art exhibitions, critics, and market.
