Description:		Focuses on mobility in the early modern world (1500-1800), including the circulation of people, knowledge, and capital. Looking at the edges of empire demonstrates the limits of empire building and state authority. As circulation increased, cosmopolitanism emerged. At least one-half of the course concentrates on the Caribbean.
