Writers may include Anne Bradstreet, Benjamin Franklin, Washington Irving, Jane Johnston Schoolcraft, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Frederick Douglass, Herman Melville, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Emily Dickinson, Mark Twain, Henry James, Charles Chesnutt, Frances Harper, Henry James, and Edith Wharton.
