This will require students to work in self-assigned discussion groups of four to complete all tasks.

The thesis or capstone product is written in close collaboration with the faculty member and must be approved by that faculty member and/or the department. The student will apply understanding of the discipline to identify or shape the research question and apply skills and techniques learned to complete the research project. The student will have gathered data, synthesized relevant literature and materials, analyzed, and interpreted data. The student will demonstrate in writing the contribution of their work to the discovery and interpretation of knowledge significant to their field of study. The student will have presented results in the form of a properly formatted, professionally rigorous thesis document or other appropriate professional capstone product and through the formal presentation of the thesis or product to faculty and peers during an approved event. The student will receive feedback from the faculty member on the overall execution of their thesis project, the written thesis, and their presentation.

The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) elective provides detailed training in ACLS skills. The course involves ten weeks of guided self-study, including videos, reading, discussion boards, and quizzes, followed by an in-person simulation-based skills session. The class culminates with the American Heart Association certification in ACLS.

Nontraditional Format:The majority of the class will be delivered online. Students are expected to complete online activities independently weekly for 10 weeks. Each activity will consist of a combination of reading and training videos and will be accompanied by a written reflection and/or quiz that must be submitted weekly. The reflections will be submitted in the form of a discussion board, whereby groups of 4-5 students reflect on discussion prompts on a discussion board that is moderated by a practicing critical care pharmacist. Students will meet for one four-hour in-person session (divided over 2 days so that the student to faculty ratio does not exceed 8:1) after completion of the 10-week online modules. All students must travel to Athens or Augusta for this session. Attendance and adequate completion of all skills are required to obtain ACLS certification and to pass the course. The specific campus will be assigned at the beginning of the semester. The in-person sessions will last approximately four hours and will consist of practice and skills testing on high-quality basic life support (BLS), bag-mask ventilation with OPA/NPA insertion, and "megacode” practice and skills testing.
