Course Objectives: | This is a capstone course required of interior design majors to
be completed during the last semester in the interior design
curriculum. Each student formulates a comprehensive medium to
large-scale project in a field of interest and in consultation
with the responsible faculty. Emphasis may be places on
project type (for example, residential, office, hospitality,
medical or transportation design) or may be on a project
characteristic (for example, sustainable or green design,
historic preservation or adaptive use projects). Projects must
reflect all phases of design development from pre-programming
research through working drawings. This course includes the
development of comprehensive design portfolios requisite for
entrance into the interior design profession. |
Topical Outline: | Students prepare the following project materials in
consultation with the faculty.
a. pre-programming research paper
b. written and graphic interior architectural project program
c. preliminary and developed design drawings
d. pin-up critiques and oral presentations
e. representative working drawings that convey the intent of
the design, including but not limited to dimensioned plans,
elevations and sections; furniture, fixtures and equipment
drawings; construction details; lighting and electrical plans;
and door, window, finish, and signage schedules, as appropriate.
f. formal exhibitions at the end of the semester.
In addition to the above, students must submit the following at
the end of the semester.
a. comprehensive digital portfolio
b. resume
c. design philosophy statement
d. course and program evaluations. |
