Course ID: | CVLE 8550. 3 hours. |
Course Title: | Design of Prestressed Concrete Structures |
Course Description: | Provides the engineering student with the knowledge required to
design and construct prestressed concrete structures. Emphasis
will be placed on the behavior of prestressed concrete under
load along with potential failure mechanisms. |
Oasis Title: | Des Prestress Concrete Struct |
Duplicate Credit: | Not open to students with credit in CVLE 8550E |
Prerequisite: | Permission of department |
Semester Course Offered: | Offered every even-numbered year. |
Grading System: | A-F (Traditional) |
|
Course Objectives: | This course introduces the student to the design of prestressed
concrete elements subjected to flexural, shear and torsional
stresses. On completion of this course, the student should be
able to:
• Analyze stress distributions in prestressed concrete members
subjected to bending, shear and torsion
• Design simple prestressed concrete members for flexure,
shear and torsion using relevant design standards |
Topical Outline: | • Development and History of Prestressed Concrete
• Stages of Loading and Stress Calculations
• Concrete Basics and Prestressing Reinforcement
• Prestress Losses
• Design and Analysis of Flexural Members
• Deflection Computations and Control
• Design and Analysis for Shear and Torsion
• Prestressing Anchors
• LRFD and Standard AASHTO Design of Concrete Bridges |
