Course Description: | Introduction to writing about dance in different contexts
through informal and formal written assignments (including a
research paper), as well as readings and discussions. |

Course Objectives: | 1. Students will gain practice and proficiency in basic writing
skills as applied to the specific discipline (and many
sub-disciplines) of dance following standard conventions.
2. Students will experiment with the global processes of writing,
including developing ideas, gathering appropriate evidence,
developing a voice, revising, editing, as well as the collaborate
practices of giving and receiving feedback to drafts and final
works.
3. Students will increase their comparative and analytical
knowledge and abilities regarding modes of thinking, rhetorical,
format, and language variances through reading exemplars of
various written texts for/about dance within the various
dance-related fields.
4. Students will gain experience in using writing assignments in
order to facilitate critical thinking about subjects of interest
within the field.
5. Students will gain proficiency in the aspects of writing an
academic research paper on a topic within the discipline of
dance, following standard conventions and practices for the sub-
area of dance chosen. |
