Course Description: | An orientation to counselor education and supervision. Content
includes professional identity development, professional
associations, professional ethics, licensure, and certification
as well as the mechanics of doctoral study. Specific content
related to counseling and student personnel services in P–16
settings. |

Course Objectives: | Students will:
1. Be versed in the professional identity associated with
counselor education and supervision as well as particular areas
of focus related to counseling and student personnel services
in P-16 educational settings.
2. Be familiar with all relevant professional associations
and standards.
3. Be familiar with requirements for licensure and
certification.
4. Become familiar with the literature and scholarship
supporting this specialty.
5. Become familiar with setting specific issues in P-16
settings.
6. Become familiar with the mechanics of doctoral study,
including APA style, library research skills, and scholarly
writing.
7. Begin team-building for the cohort. |
