Course Description: | Introduction to contemporary entertainment media from a media
studies and media literacy perspective. The historical, economic,
social, cultural, legal, and ideological contexts of contemporary
entertainment media, with an emphasis on television, film, gaming,
and other emergent media. |

Course Objectives: | (a) The course will provide students with a critical language to
interrogate contemporary entertainment media, especially issues
of visual media texts and storytelling.
(b) Students will learn about issues of textual form, economic
contexts, historical antecedents, cultural/ideological
discourses for understanding contemporary entertainment media.
(c) Students will be provided a theoretical language drawn from
the field of media studies and media literacy, which will
inform subsequent coursework in the Entertainment and Media
Studies Department. |
