Course Title: | Advanced Composition |
Course Description: | Investigation of writing as a process, dialogue, and artifact.
During investigations, the class will discuss histories,
theories, practices, forms, design, and the future of
composition. During studio sessions, students will actively
engage in writing and writing process activities, including
brainstorming, drafting, peer review, revising, editing, and
reflecting. |

Course Objectives: | • Students will learn about the field of composition, omposition
principles and practices, and context-specific discourse
conventions and genres.
• Students will encounter diverse forms, media, and modes to
observe how composition works across disciplines, across media,
and in diverse production and interaction contexts.
• Students will practice writing, revising, and editing
regularly.
• Students will work collaboratively to critique and create
compositions.
• Students will develop critical reading, writing, and thinking
skills.
• Students will interact with networked writing spaces and
digital tools designed to support writing and collaboration
online.
• Students will engage in reflective writing to support the
transfer of writing-related knowledge and skills. |

Major assignments will require students to analyze and produce
compositions in a variety of popular and academic genres. A
final collaborative project, such as designing a digital essay
collection, will offer students the chance to work on a larger
digital composition and consider discourse conventions, document
design, and the writing process in the context of collaborative,
experiential learning. |
