Course Objectives: | Students will be able to:
Examine the principles and limitations of public health
surveillance (PHS) programs.
Identify key surveillance sources of data for epidemiologic
purposes.
Evaluate the relationship between PHS and decision-making.
Compare data collection sources, methods, and models of PHS.
Explain the current state of PHS and its challenges.
Compare the differences between vertical and integrated PHS.
Apply PHS principles to data collection.
Describe the health system gains of integrating various PHS.
Prepare PHS data into a report for various audiences.
Explain how program evaluation can be used to evaluate PHS.
Compare and contrast PHS at international, national, state, and
