Course Title: | Introduction to Health Policy and Management |
Course Description: | A detailed look at the organization and financing of the United
States health care system. Topics include policy and management
issues affecting patients, providers, and payers; the role of
government in addressing cost, quality, and access; and the
relationship between policy and management in their historical,
economic, and political context. |

Course Objectives: | Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Describe the policy making process.
2. Describe the United States Health Care System and be able to
compare the U.S. system with other global systems.
3. Explain the underlying economic concepts of the health care
market place.
4. Explain the role of insurance in the system and distinguish
between public and private financing mechanisms.
5. Identify and communicate the basics of health care reform and
the Affordable Care Act.
6. Discuss the role of law and ethics in the U.S. health care
system.
7. Explain the dynamic interplay of cost, quality, access,
politics, and value in the system. |
