Course Objectives: | Students will demonstrate their ability:
- to pronounce Latin;
- to recognize, form, and translate subjunctive and several
irregular verbs, nouns of the fifth declension, comparative
and superlative adjectives and adverbs, participles and
infinitives, and other morphemes;
- to read, comprehend, and translate texts of both adapted and
original Latin of an increasing level of difficulty;
- to analyze English words based on their Latin roots;
- to discuss some basic topics in Roman literature, history, and
culture |

passive
Introduction to the fifth noun declension and numerous case
uses
Participles, infinitives, gerunds, supines, and their uses
Introduction to comparison of adjectives and adverbs
The subjunctive mood and numerous subjunctive clause types
The irregular verbs fero, volo, eo, and others
Deponent verbs
Latin readings and translations in Roman literature and history
and classical mythology
Discussion of English derivatives |
