Course ID: | MIBO 2500E. 3 hours. |
Course Title: | Microbiology and Health Care |
Course Description: | Emphasis on the fundamentals of microorganisms, their growth and
metabolism, disease pathogenicity, epidemiology, antimicrobials,
host-pathogen interaction, and various human diseases caused by
microbes. |
Oasis Title: | Microbiology and Health Care |
Duplicate Credit: | Not open to students with credit in MIBO 2500 |
Nontraditional Format: | This course will be taught 95% or more online. |
Prerequisite: | [(BIOL 1103 or BIOL 1103E or BIOL 1103H) and BIOL 1103L] or [(BIOL 1107 or BIOL 1107E or BIOL 1107H) and BIOL 1107L] |
Semester Course Offered: | Offered summer semester every year. |
Grading System: | A-F (Traditional) |
|
Course Objectives: | The course objective is that students interested in careers in
health-related fields learn how interactions between
microorganisms and human defenses affect disease and society. The
basic principles of microbial physiology and host-microbe
interactions will be understood by students who have successfully
completed this course. Information will be assimilated by
students through a combination of approaches that include
attention to recorded lectures, textbook readings, current news
articles, interactive assignments and discussions through online
course restricted forums, eLC, and individual communication with
the instructor. Students will be evaluated on the basis of
several quizzes and final exams. |

Honor Code Reference: | All academic work must meet the standards contained in the UGA
Student Honor Code. Students are responsible for informing
themselves about those standards before performing any academic
work. Students are allowed to study with each other in any way
they find useful. During any testing situations, students must
not use any notes or any help other than direct questions
addressed to the instructor. During the test, students must have
no communication with any other student, and they must read only
