Course ID: | PBGG(CRSS)(HORT) 8870. 3 hours. |
Course Title: | Translational Genomics |
Course Description: | Strategies and tools for the application of genomic information
to the development of crops with improved traits. |
Oasis Title: | TRANSLATNL GENOMICS |
Prerequisite: | One graduate-level course in genetics or breeding or permission of department |
Grading System: | A-F (Traditional) |
|
Course Objectives: | Students will become familiar with methods for identifying
candidate genes and the strengths and limitations of different
strategies for applying this genetic information. They will
learn the technical capabilities needed in addition to genomics
for deploying improved genotypes. By the end of the course,
students should be able to critically assess different
molecular genetic approaches for improving a specific trait in
a target plant species. |
Topical Outline: | Plant genomic resources
Candidate gene approach
Phenotypic and biochemical data
Functional and comparative genomics
EST/SNP maps
Transgenic breeding
Mutation breeding
Association genetics-based breeding
Project integration |
