Course Title: | Social Work Practice Across Multiple Systems |
Course Description: | Provides students with the conceptual foundations of evidence-informed practice in smaller and larger systems, and reviews how to use these science-based interventions in the treatment of specific psychosocial problems and the management of agency- and community-level practice. |

Course Objectives: | By the conclusion of this course, students are expected to be able to:
1. Acquire familiarity with and ability to use the concepts comprising contemporary task-centered practice across multiple systems.
2. Acquire the ability to conceptualize particular client problems in terms of task-centered practice theory variables.
3. Develop the ability to use the five steps of evidence-based practice to consult and assess the empirically-based practice research literature to aid in the selection of appropriate interventions.
4. Describe task-centered practice procedures used for specific clinical problems and provide a coherent theoretical rationale for these methods.
5. Recognize the role of the structural determinants of culture and the culture of silence and power as challenges to the leaders of larger systems who assess and address threats to civil and human rights and the social justice of service beneficiaries.
6. Engage in the integration of cross-cultural management practice and evidence-based perspectives across diverse larger systems.
7. Use transparency and information literacy to define the integrative critical perspective of social work problem-solving, expand knowledge bases, and broaden the understanding of the complexities of social issues.
8. Utilize evidence to critically analyze ways to improve agency and program functioning and service effectiveness.
9. Develop informed hypotheses about the root causes of agency, program, and client-related issues based on evidence.
10. Use evidence to assess the contingencies of various solutions to resolve the problem.
11. Investigate the costs and benefits of alternative options based on evidence.
12. Make strategic decisions based on critical thinking.
13. Track and monitor client reactions to planned interventions through the evidence to inform program effectiveness.
14. Critically assess the agency's capability to evaluate program successes and weaknesses and its capability to modify a course of action to assure quality control.
15. Use cultural knowledge and effective collaboration techniques to implement service coordination mechanisms within and across service delivery systems. |
