Course Objectives: | The course will not be open to students who have two or more
years of Spanish in high school or are Spanish heritage
speakers.
This course stresses the development of the student's ability
to speak Spanish. Students will be able to describe people,
objects, familiar places, and everyday activities. They will be
able to ask and answer simple questions and to understand
simple discourse about concrete topics. They will be capable of
reading and comprehending simple texts and will learn to write
paragraphs about familiar, concrete topics and take brief
notes. Students will also learn about the sound system of
Spanish and about Spanish-speaking cultures. |

questions; describing; making polite requests; expressing
thanks; narrating and describing in the past; giving directions;
expressing opinions and reactions.
