Course Objectives: | This course is designed for students who have taken Spanish in
High School for two or more years.Students who haven't taken two
or more entrance units will be placed directly into this class,
bypassing Elementary Spanish. This course will review basic
principles of Spanish pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and
discourse in order to develop their ability to understand,
speak, read, and write Spanish. Students will also learn about
the different cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. The
course combines topics covered in Elementary Spanish. |
Topical Outline: | Pronunciation: Rhythm, consonants, vowels, dipthongs, stress
and intonation.
Basic Tenses for communication: Present, imperfect, preterite,
future.
Regular verb conjugations: First, second, third.
High Frequency irregular verbs: Ser, estar, tener, hacer,
gustar, poder, querer, venir.
Vocabulary of useful items: personal possessions, food, family
members, clothing, shopping, holidays and celebrations.
Pronouns: Subject, direct and indirect object, reflexive,
interrogative, and relative pronouns.
Moods: Indicative, subjunctive, imperative.
Vocabulary and structure of conversational topics: Numbers,
time, weather, calender, coursework.
Readings and culture: The Spanish-speaking world, the
university, Hispanic last names, family life, travel and
vacations, household goods, sports hobbies, holidays,
accidents, health and saftey. |
