Course Objectives: | 1. Survey manpower needs in your community to obtain data
useful in determining teaching content.
2. Identify and select instruments that can be used to assess
student needs and interests. These instruments can be models
developed by graduate students meeting objective one below,
self made, or standardized instruments from a variety of
sources.
3. Analyze data gathered from a variety of resources including
community, industry, and students.
4. Sequence course objectives based upon analyses of data.
5. List materials, tools, and major equipment necessary to
teach in the specialized areas of technological study based
upon an analysis.
6. Complete a self-analysis of strengths and weaknesses.
Describe activities that will address, reduce, or lessen the
perceived weaknesses.
7. Prepare a two-page pager that focuses on how you already,
or will, infuse work ethics as you prepare your students for
the workforce. Submit your paper for dissemination on this web
site.
8. Collect data from a variety of sources that aid in
identifying needs of special populations in preparation for the
workforce. Sources include federal, state, and local sources,
journals, the Internet, and newspaper articles.
9. Prepare a portfolio containing an analysis of an
occupational field, nature of the occupation, job titles,
duties, tasks, operations, and cognitive, affective, and
psychomotor skills. The portfolio will also contain all the
results of the collection and analysis of data displayed in
tables or graphic formats noted in the above objectives.
Specifics of the portfolio contents will be covered in class.
In addition, the graduate students will:
10. Research and develop survey instruments to assess the needs
of community, industry, and students to determine teaching
content. Share the research and describe the instruments and
their use. Disseminate self-developed instrument formats by
submitting them for downloading on this web site.
11. Develop, modify, or adapt teacher-made instructional
materials necessary to teach in the specialized areas of
technological study.
12. Prepare a brief paper to lead a discussion on a topic
(except work ethic and special populations) appropriate to this
course and approved in advance by the instructor. Your paper
and other materials should be submitted for posting on this
web site.
13. Prepare a brief paper and give a presentation that
illustrates issues confronted by special populations in the
workplace. For the purpose of this assignment, special
populations include those with learning deficiencies, non-
traditional gender, minorities, and physically-handicapped
persons. Your paper and other materials should be submitted
for posting on this web site.
14. Conduct extensive research activities and prepare a quality
term paper with citations from the literature on the issues and
concerns related to analyses of the impact of new and emerging
technologies on the educational and work environment. The
paper is to be submitted by the end of the course, separate
from the portfolio. May be revised to include a class
presentation--dependent on number of graduate students and
time.) |
