Course ID: | CVLE 3450L. 1 hour. 3 hours lab per week. |
Course Title: | Civil Engineering Laboratory – Soils |
Course Description: | Soil properties of interest to engineers. Grain size analysis,
determining Atterberg limits, measuring specific gravity,
permeability, compaction, consolidation, and shear using
standardized tests. Procedures and tools for data collection,
analysis, interpretation, and presentation. |
Oasis Title: | Civil Engineering Lab Soils |
Pre or Corequisite: | CVLE 3420 |
Semester Course Offered: | Offered every year. |
Grading System: | A-F (Traditional) |
|
Course Objectives: | Learn standardized testing procedures involved in determining
key properties of soils that are of interest to engineers. On
completion of this course, the student should be able to
experimentally determine specific gravity, Atterberg limits,
permeability, compaction, consolidation and shear properties of
soils using standardized testing procedures. The student should
also be able to classify soils visually and perform grain size
analysis. Ability to present results in a technical format is
expected. |
