Our internship is designed as a practicum, to allow geography 
undergraduate majors to obtain practical experience in the 
application of geographical skills in the work place.  As a 
consequence, internships are carefully screened by our 
internship coordinator, to ensure that the learning experience 
is suitably challenging and rewarding.

Students are placed with private firms, government agencies 
(local, state, or federal), or non-governmental organizations 
that can provide geography majors the opportunity to apply 
conceptual and/or pragmatic dimensions of their training in 
geography.

The internship promotes the diversity of learning experiences 
in geography, and serves to mentor undergraduates seeking to 
apply their geographical training in a working environment.

Interns are required to participate in an internship 
orientation session, which will acquaint them with the purposes 
of the internship program and provide logistical details of 
their specific internship.

Interns are monitored by cooperating host agencies, who oversee 
the day-to-day details of the work assignment.

All interns summarize their internship experience in a written 
report that highlights the nature of the tasks performed and 
explores the geographic dimensions of those tasks.  Host 
agencies also provide evaluative summaries of the interns 
performance.
