  • A passing grade on an examination on the history of the United States and Georgia is required to satisfy the United States and Georgia History Requirement for all persons receiving a baccalaureate degree from the University, unless exempted by one of the following courses: HIST 2111, HIST 2111E, HIST 2111H, HIST 2112, HIST 2112E, HIST 2112H, HIST 3080H. Entrance Requirements
If you are interested in the health promotion major, please contact a health promotion advisor as you complete the general education requirements to ensure proper course sequencing.

First- and second-year students are not required to meet any set entrance requirements.  Students are allowed to have a major of intended-health promotion within the college and work with an advisor as they are completing the general requirements to apply to this high-demand major.

Third-year of higher students are expected to complete the General Education Core Curriculum Areas I-VI and obtain a grade of "C" (2.0) or higher in all courses in Area I and Area VI, including all university requirements except for PE and experiential learning. High-demand selection criteria must be met.  Applications are accepted twice per year (February and September).

High-Demand Major–Selection Criteria

• Overall grade point average (GPA) minimum of 2.7 and no grade less than "C" (2.0) in areas I and VI of the general education core curriculum 
• GPA in General Education Area I (Foundation skills) minimum of 2.7
• GPA in General Education Area II (Sciences) minimum of 2.7
• GPA in General Education Area VI (Courses related to program of study) minimum of 2.7 and no grade less than C (2.0). The area VI requirements are based on the area of emphasis chosen (see above). 

Completed Essay:
Why is health promotion important to you? How will this degree help you obtain your career goals? You may include volunteer experience, work experience, personal experience, or relevant coursework that sparked your interest in health promotion.

Choose Health Promotion Area of Emphasis or Health Services Area of Emphasis or Behavioral Medicine Area of Emphasis:

-- Health Promotion Area of Emphasis prepares students for health promotion and wellness positions in public, community, work-site, and health care settings, as well as for graduate level work in public health. Pre-nursing students often complete this Area of Emphasis. 

-- Health Services Area of Emphasis in health promotion prepares students for graduate level work with an emphasis on disease prevention and wellness. Examples might include pre-physician's assistant, pre-medical, or pre-dental.

-- Behavioral Medicine Area of Emphasis in health promotion prepares up to 20 students a year in pre-medicine. This area of emphasis focuses on behavioral medicine and includes community, residency, and practical experiences.
