Description: The major in Family and Consumer Sciences Education is offered jointly by the College of Family and Consumer Sciences and the College of Education. Completers of this program will be eligible for state educator certification in Family and Consumer Sciences for grades 6-12.

Career Opportunities: Family and Consumer Sciences Education graduates teach middle and high school students to improve the quality of life for individuals and families. A graduate could teach courses in nutrition, parenting, child care/elder care, clothing/apparel design and construction, single and family living, interior design, food service occupations, and/or consumer education. Graduates are also employed as extension agents and are hired by businesses to market food and food preparation equipment, consult on home or clothing design, and advise on family resource management or child development. Graduates with advanced degrees may be employed by colleges and universities. Faculty members assist individual students in educational placements within the state and region.
Expectations
of Transfer Students:
Recommended courses: Chemistry sequence, psychology, foundations of education, human development and the educative process, and computer technology for teachers.

Study Abroad: Consortium for Overseas Student Teaching (COST)
Internships: Full-time supervised student teaching experience in a public school setting for one semester.
Distance Learning: Some of the professional education courses in this major may be offered online.
Service Learning: Several of the professional education courses in this major provide for a service learning experience at business and community organizations.
