Description: Students in Agricultural Education complete an approved program of course work in the agricultural sciences and teacher education. A school practicum involves observation of agricultural instruction at schools across the state. The practicum helps students understand the job of teaching agriculture, make career choices and select a student teaching center. Apprentice teaching (student teaching) is carried out in an approved secondary school center under the daily supervision of an experienced and successful teacher of agriculture. Supervision is also provided by University of Georgia Agricultural Education faculty.

Career Opportunities: Agricultural Education prepares students for positions in teaching agriculture at the middle school, high school, post-secondary, and adult levels. Graduates are eligible for teacher certification in most states, under reciprocity agreements with the State of Georgia. Employment outlook is excellent; there is a national shortage of teachers of agriculture. For the past thirty years, Georgia has had more job openings than graduates of the program. Graduates are also eligible for a variety of related careers in agricultural business, leadership, industry, Extension, and other government agencies.
Expectations
of Transfer Students:
Students are required to have enrolled in the first course in the professional sequence, AGED 4370/6370, and be admitted to teacher education prior to continuation in the professional sequence (See Regents' requirements for admission to teacher education in College of Education section).

Other scholarships are available through the National FFA Foundation, Georgia FFA, and the Alumni Association.
Study Abroad: Opportunities to study abroad are available through the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and other University of Georgia programs. Students wishing to study abroad should consult with program faculty.
Internships: Student teaching is required for teacher certification. During the senior year, students spend 75 days in public school agricultural education classrooms under the direction of specially-trained cooperating teachers and University supervisors/faculty members in Agricultural Education.
