Career Opportunities: |
This degree prepares students to teach mathematics in grades 6-12.
|
Expectations of Transfer Students: |
Students transferring into Mathematics Education should have completed all core requirements, including the equivalent to the calculus sequence of MATH 2250, 2260. An overall GPA of 2.75 is required.
|
Special Requirements: |
A minimum grade of "C" (2.0) is required in each course with a MATH, STAT, or EMAT prefix and in each education course.
Mathematics Education is a restricted major admitting only 25 students per cohort. All students must meet the following minimum qualifications to be admitted: overall grade point average of 2.75; grade of C or better in MATH 2250, 2260, 3200; and documented completion of at least 30 clock hours of tutoring 1-2 students in the mathematics of grades 6-12 in a structured setting.
All students meeting these requirements will then be ranked using the following formula: grade in MATH 2250 + grade in MATH 2260 + grade in MATH 3200 + overall grade point average.
Students who have at least 9.75 points will then be rank ordered, and the 25 students having the highest point totals will be admitted to the cohort.
A student who has been admitted and is unable to enroll will automatically be allowed into the next cohort he or she is able to join. Students who were denied admission can reapply as many times as they wish.
