Career Opportunities: |
Russian is the first language of approximately 150 million people and has long served as a lingua franca for millions more in the former republics of the Soviet Union and the countries of Eastern Europe. Russian continues to play an important role in global politics, and there are a wide variety of career opportunities in both governmental and non-governmental organizations with an international focus. Russia’s reentry into the world economic system has also opened up a vast and largely unexploited market for Western goods and services, and business opportunities in the region can only increase over time. Furthermore, most large employers in the U.S. are international corporations which need employees who have the knowledge and experience to function successfully in foreign settings and to deal with their international business partners; foreign language majors are a definite asset to such companies.
