Description: Computer science deals with the logical and mathematical foundations of computing and how to implement problem solutions as programs in a computer language. The computer science curriculum covers the design principles of key computing technologies such as hardware, operating systems, database systems, networks, graphics, and artificial intelligence. Mathematical reasoning is emphasized throughout the program.

Career Opportunities: Computer science continues to be one of the fastest growing career fields in the nation. There are critical demands for technically trained persons to provide technical support for computer operations, and to develop new computer hardware and software systems. Recent graduates are employed by major computer manufacturers, software development corporations, the communications industry, consulting firms, and a host of other areas. Still other graduates have continued their education in Computer Science at excellent graduate schools.
of Transfer Students:
The prerequisites to early courses in the major are stated in Core Areas I-V and Area VI. Students transferring with 60 semester hours or more are urged to have completed the equivalency of three semesters of foreign language.
Cooperative Education: Interesting co-op learning experiences are available for students who have completed their first year.
Student Organizations: Association for Computing Machinery
Available Graduate Programs: Computer Science
