The M.A. degree provides a robust and broad grounding in comparative literary and cultural studies. The two introductory courses, CMLT 8040 and CMLT 8001, train students in theories of comparison and literary translation. On top of this foundation, students develop their own program of study and generally take courses from departments across the humanities at UGA alongside our own graduate offerings. This provides ample time for students to develop their language skills at UGA in order to meet the program’s requirement of one language in addition to English. Working with a major professor and a committee, students write an M.A. thesis in their area of specialization.
