Computer Science MS - Milestones

Select additional courses, as needed, in consultation with an advisor to meet the minimum number of required credit hours for this program.

They will obtain skills and experience in up-to-date approaches to analysis, design, implementation, validation, and documentation of computer software and hardware. With these skills they will be well qualified for technical, professional, or managerial positions in government, business, industry, and education.

Computer Science graduate students are nominated by Director of Graduate Studies, and Graduate Program Committee for various Graduate School Award nominations and nominations for awards with Office of Global Engagement. Students are encouraged to seek outside fellowships and scholarships. Departmental funding in the form of research or teaching assistantships

Student are encouraged to pursue research opportunities outside of Athens, when appropriate and in consultation with their committees.

Students are encouraged to pursue internship opportunities either on-campus or off- campus when those internships will facilitate their professional development and career aspirations. International students are required to register for the internship course, CSCI 7007 for paid internship, off-campus.

Students are encouraged to present their research at conferences, professional meetings, and symposia. In addition to Graduate School Travel funding, the School of Computing has travel funding to support students for conference travel for presentation of research. Students also are encouraged to write grant proposals to help fund their research and to develop grant-writing skills. Students are expected to publish their research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
