Philosophy MA

Program Description

The department offers a comprehensive program, covering the major areas of philosophical study, leading to the M.A. and the Ph.D. degrees. Various approaches, including historical studies, linguistic analysis, logical analysis, and phenomenology are represented by the faculty. The department also participates in three interdisciplinary programs, is home to an academic journal, and conducts an active colloquium series. Though the department allows students to pursue their own interests in diverse areas, our special strengths lie in metaphysics, moral and political philosophy, and theory of knowledge and philosophy of mind. The graduate program is designed to give broad and thorough training in these basic areas of philosophy, as well as the opportunity for special study in the area of specialization of interest to the student.
