Course Title: | Cancer Etiology and Prevention |
Course Description: | Cancer is the leading cause of mortality in the world and fully understanding cancer's etiology is essential for public health professionals. This course covers etiological risk factors and preventive strategies of major human cancers, and will explore environmental causes, carcinogenesis, and prevention of human cancers. |

Course Objectives: | After completing these courses, students will be able to:
1. Understand and apply the basic tenets of cancer etiology
and prevention to their graduate research, medical practice, or
public health practice on related topics.
2. Describe and discuss:
a. Basic principles of environmental cause of cancer including
biological, physical, chemical, and life-style risk factors;
b. Interactions of gene and environment in the etiology of
cancer;
c. Genetic predispositions and genetic susceptibility in cause
of cancer;
3. Understand current strategies in cancer prevention,
including primary prevention, secondary prevention,
chemoprevention, and tertiary prevention. |
