Aerospace Systems Engineering

An introductory course focuses on the systems engineering and systems engineering design thinking concepts. System engineering tools and methods to support multidisciplinary design decision process. Topics include systems thinking, systems engineering and tools, aerospace subsystems and requirements, trade studies, and systems synthesis.

Introduction to Aerospace Engineering

This course introduces the systems engineering concepts and methods for design and performance of aerospace vehicles. Topics include integrated systems design, power/propulsion systems, performance, avionics, guidance and control. Includes multidisciplinary projects for students focusing on system architecture, trade studies, and mission driven design of aerospace systems.

Aerodynamics

The course focuses on the study of external flow. It outlines fundamental aerodynamic concepts and tools for aerospace vehicle flow analysis and design of subsonic, transonic, and supersonic aircraft. The course will address subsonic potential flows, inviscid/viscous flows; flow separation; aerodynamics of airfoils and wings.

Aerospace Design and Optimization

Introduces students to the multidisciplinary approach to aerospace systems design and optimization process. Basic concepts of aerodynamics, aircraft structures, flight dynamics, and stability are introduced in a multidisciplinary fashion using engineering systems thinking to gain knowledge in aerospace systems. Multidisciplinary optimization techniques and trade-off studies are presented.

Course introduces students to the multidisciplinary approach to aerospace structures and materials. Concepts related to aircraft loads and thin-wall structures, materials including composites, manufacturing, structural performance, and durability concepts are introduced.

Aerospace Capstone Design I

This aerospace capstone design course is the first in a two-semester sequence that is project-based and focused on aerospace related project. It involves problem framing, stakeholder analysis, concept generation, and project management skills.
