The Sustainability Seminar introduces Sustainability Certificate students to local and global sustainability issues, sustainability professionals, and strategies and approaches for addressing global challenges at a local scale. This includes developing students' competence in seven key areas: systems thinking competency, anticipatory competency, normative competency, strategic competency, collaboration competency, intrapersonal competency, and integrative problem-solving competency.

This course provides the scaffolding for a semester long interdisciplinary team project and facilitates completion of reflective portfolios. Students apply knowledge and sustainability competencies to a challenge identified by a business, nonprofit or government agency, while developing professional skills to prepare for the transition to a career or graduate school.
